Artist Career Consultations
Fine Artists at all career stages benefit from Michels' art marketing and career development services. For beginning artists she assists with the basics of launching a career — from presentation tools and establishing art prices — to generating exhibition opportunities, commissions and sales — and navigating through the seemingly mysterious corridors of the art world.
She helps established artists with career relaunching, and provides guidance on resolving sensitive or intricate business relationships, including insights into leaving or changing galleries.
Michels also works with artists in developing press relations, generating feature articles in newspapers and periodicals, and maximizing exposure through exhibition and commission opportunities.
Consultations are structured to help fine artists find markets and audiences, to become more visible and business savvy, and develop local, regional, national and international connections. Advice and guidance are provided on overall career strategies and planning, focusing on all of the various components of an artist's professional development.
Tailored to individual needs and priorities, phone consultations and in-person consultations can cover a wide range of general information or specific advice on one subject or a range of subjects. Phone consultations are also geared to assist artists in need of immediate feedback.
Consultation Fees
Phone Consultations
An initial consultation is prorated on the basis of $200 per hour plus the cost of the call. There is a minimum of 1/2 hour for the first consultation. After the initial consultation, phone consultations are prorated on the basis of $125 per hour. Cost-effective monthly tabs are available. To arrange an initial phone consultation, please complete the registration form. Be sure to include your Web site address. If you do not have a Web site, send me a typical presentation package that includes, for example, a résumé, photographs, a CD-ROM, artist statement, price list, and a SASE for the return of your materials. A deposit of $100 is also required. I accept checks or credit cards (American Express, Mastercard, and Visa). Upon receipt of your materials, I will contact you by phone or e-mail to arrange a phone appointment.
In-person Consultations
An initial consultation is $225 for the first hour; $150 per hour thereafter. Initial in-person consultations usually last one hour, but they can be extended. Please bring presentation materials with you. Payment for the initial meeting is due in full the day of the first meeting. All in-person consultations are held in Sarasota, Florida.
PLEASE NOTE: Consultation deposits and all other payments for artists living outside of the U.S.A. must be made in U.S. dollars by credit card, or with an international money order or bank draft paid out to an American bank
